UNDERSTANDING THE TREATMENT
Manual lymphatic drainage uses light, slow movements to encourage lymph fluid towards functioning drainage pathways.
Your lymphatic system helps maintain fluid balance. Specialist manual lymphatic drainage can help manage swelling when used appropriately, often as part of a wider care plan.
For someone with a healthy lymphatic system, relaxation may be the main benefit. At Joy, the approach is gentle and individual, with time to discuss what you are looking for before treatment.
Is it right for me?WHY CHOOSE A GENTLER TOUCH?
Light, directional movements encourage lymph drainage. Where clinically suitable, MLD can form part of swelling management.
A quiet setting and gentle touch offer an opportunity to pause, unwind and focus on your wellbeing.
Talk through your preferences, comfort and treatment areas with Joy, so your visit starts with understanding.

OUR ROOM · DESIGN CONCEPTA PERSONAL APPROACH, WITH JOY
A welcoming space, a conversation and time to settle in.
At Joy Lymphatic Clinic, the focus is on gentle treatment and making you feel comfortable. Ask questions, share your preferences and let Joy know if anything needs adjusting.
Discuss your goals, health history and whether treatment is appropriate for you.
Your privacy, draping and comfort are part of the conversation before treatment begins.
Enjoy light, rhythmic movements, then discuss any suitable aftercare or next steps.
Please ask before booking if you are pregnant, recovering from surgery, receiving cancer treatment, or have a history of blood clots, heart or kidney problems. Active infection or unexplained swelling needs medical assessment first. Diagnosed lymphoedema requires advice from a specialist care team; a wellness appointment does not replace that care.
A LITTLE REASSURANCE
Not sure where to start?
Joy is happy to talk things through.
Manual lymphatic drainage, often shortened to MLD, is a specialised technique using light, rhythmic skin movements to encourage the drainage of lymph fluid. It differs from the deeper pressure used in a sports or deep-tissue massage.
MLD is used in specialist care to help manage swelling, usually alongside other treatments. If your lymphatic system is healthy, benefits beyond relaxation are less certain. Your response depends on your circumstances, and results cannot be guaranteed.
It is not a fat-loss treatment and does not promise permanent body contouring or cellulite removal. Any change in appearance linked to fluid movement may be temporary. It is not a substitute for medical care or a healthy lifestyle.
Manual lymphatic drainage uses gentle pressure and should not be painful. Tell Joy straight away if you feel discomfort or want a change. You can ask to pause or stop at any time.
Please speak to your surgeon or lymphoedema care team first. Post-operative and lymphoedema care can require specific specialist training and a wider treatment plan. Contact Joy before booking to discuss whether your needs are within the clinic’s scope.
Suitability needs an individual assessment. Tell Joy about pregnancy, recent procedures and relevant medical conditions before arranging a visit. Treatment may need to be adapted, postponed or referred for medical advice. Do not book massage for suspected blood clots or active infection.
Contact Joy for current session lengths, prices and availability for your chosen area. Your treatment and total price will be agreed before you confirm an appointment. There is no obligation when you enquire.
Wear something comfortable and bring any relevant medical advice. There is no need to drink excessive amounts of water; follow any fluid restrictions from your clinician. The frequency of appointments depends on your goals, response and medical advice, rather than a one-size-fits-all course.
Call 07742 595089 or use the WhatsApp enquiry below. Joy will confirm availability, suitability, price and appointment details with you. A message alone does not reserve a slot. Please contact the clinic as soon as possible if you need to rearrange.
